when I met up with
an old dog last night
that dog looked at me
up and down he
lept up to his feet
so excited
cuz he knew
that I'd always carried
with me
some extra dried meats
and that I didn't mind
sharing with the likes of his kind
had always been a friend to me
what else could you ever need
well maybe just a break
sure's a hot one today
but that dog looked at me
up and down he
lept up to his feet
so excited
though I did not have
any meats for him
I was broke
out of business
a bad year
barely even still here
making sense
of all this mess
trying not to feel
like there's less and less
I thought we both didn't
have a place for the night
but that dog looked at me
up and down he
lept up to his feet
so excited
who knew
that he would take me
to see the secret dog city
and what a delightful sight
toys to bite
and fields for flight
no reason not to be friendly
even had electricity
thinking I might stay
for more than just a day
but that dog looked at me
up and down he
lept up to his feet
so excited
though I might have to learn
their language
some kinda bark
I was broke
out of business
a bad year
barely even still here
making sense
of all this mess
trying not to feel
like there's less and less cuz
why shouldn't I just stay
and start all over again
cuz I've seen you more than once
crying out your eyes
saying things here ain't right
when I met up with
an old dog last night
that dog looked at me
up and down he
lept up to his feet
so excited
